It looks like we might get The Last of Us Part 2 on PS5 after all

Whether you’re a fan of what happens in The Last of Us Part 2 or not, it’s hard to deny that Naughty Dog’s action-adventure epic is one of the best games of all time. Presenting players with a heart-wrenching narrative, fantastic performances from the cast throughout, and satisfying gameplay mechanics, there’s really not a lot wrong with this sequel to The Last of Us Part 1. However, that doesn’t mean it can’t be even better – right? Well, it can be. Thanks to recent comments from the series’ composer, it looks like we might just be seeing a native The Last of Us Part 2 PS5 release after all.

Speaking to PlayStation content creator ‘TCMFGames‘, The Last of Us franchise composer Gustavo Santaolalla seems to have let slip that a new version of The Last of Us Part 2 is on the way – a director’s cut, we suppose – in which players will be able to approach him in-game and actually ask him to play a number of different songs. While he did cameo in The Last of Us Part 2 originally, this isn’t a feature available in the current version of the game.

Although in Spanish, translations online and our own use of translation tools seem to confirm that Santaolalla mentions “new editions” in reference to The Last of Us Part 2, and the aforementioned additional feature, before saying “I can’t tell you anything else”. Yeah, that sounds like someone’s let something slip they shouldn’t have – if you ask us.

Do you know what this means? Well, it means we could see The Last of Us Part 2 in stunning 4K resolution and comfortable 60 fps gameplay sooner than we think. It also seems to suggest that there might be a few alterations to the original PS4 version of the game, too – which really could cement a PS5 release of The Last of Us Part 2 as one of the best PS5 games ever.

However, only time will tell – and we might be waiting a few weeks before we hear anything more from Naughty Dog in any case. 2023’s Gamescom is a few weeks away, though, and the Opening Night Live showcase could be the perfect time for an announcement. So, it’s worth keeping an eye out.

It’s also important to remember that the studio is working on several projects right now, including a new The Last of Us franchise title. Although, these The Last of Us Part 3 leaks sound a lot like what we would expect from a standalone The Last of Us Factions game, so who knows what’s really going on behind closed doors right now.

If you want to prepare yourself for the onslaught of upcoming PS5 games, the possible The Last of Us Part 2 re-release included, you’ll want to think about picking up one of the best PS5 SSD storage devices when you can; you can just tell a PS5 version of this game is going to be big. The game is around 73 GB on PS4 and The Last of Us Part 1 on PS5 is 79 GB – not a small game at all.
