Noel Darleen Neill was an American actress best known for playing “Louis Lane” in the early Superman films. She was born on November 25, 1920 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He father, David, was a journalist, and her mother a stage dancer. She completed her high school education in 1938.

CAREER
Prior to acting, Neill experimented with dancing, singing and modeling. She performed in a number of Hollywood nightclubs such as Ciro’s, the Macombo and Cafe Trocadero. Neill was a popular pin-up model second only to Betty Grable. She also performed with Bob Crosby and his orchestra. She was later signed by Bing Crosby to sing at the Del Mar Turf Club in California.

Neill was signed to Paramount Pictures in the early 1940s. She appeared in the films Here Come the Waves (1944), and Bring on the Girls (1945). Neill was cast as aggressive reporter “Betty Rogers” in Sam Katzman’s 1946 musical comedy, Junior Prom. She followed up with the role of “Louis Lane” in the film serial for Superman (1948) followed by Atom Man vs. Superman (1950). Neill reprised the role of reporter Louis Lane in the ‘Adventure of Superman’ television series from 1953 to 1958. Other film appearances include Are You With It? (1948), Whistling Hills (1951), and Superman Returns (2006) with Brandon Routh.

PERSONAL
Noel Neill died on July 3, 2016 at the age of 95. She had suffered a broken hip at her Arizona home back in 2010. No official cause of death was reported. Neill was 5ft 4in tall and had a net worth of $2 million. She married Hal Lierley in October 1943 but the marriage was annulled. She wed second husband ‘William Behrens’ from 1953-62, followed by third husband ‘Joel Taylor’ from 1963-71. She had no children.
